Review

Green's material covers the most familiar of bases, rarely venturing much beyond the perennial topic of the differences between men and women.

The boundaries of comedy stay unbreached, edges remain uncut and envelopes unpushed; yet even the most hardened cynic would have to acknowledge that Green is a brilliant exponent of what he does.

His success owes a lot to his incorrigible rogue persona, his softly-spoken words and mischievous twinkle beguiling almost any audience.

Much of his humour is as gentle as his image, though his finest moments come when his winning charm provides cover for a more aggressive standpoint, that velvet glove offering him far more latitude that a more direct approach would.

His slick professionalism always skirts the edge of smarminess, and much of his material lacks the real bite of the high points, but Green is a seasoned pro offering plenty to enjoy.

Utter rubbish, the only one laughing at a Jeff Green show is Jeff, laughing all the way to the bank Docker 08.08.06

I can't get enough of Jeff Green on the comedy radio stations. It gets me through work. Alan Lambkin Boston, MA 09.06.06

I really think there should be more of him on television, how can people not love him? Sorrel 20.04.06

Just saw him a few weeks ago in Hong Kong and didn't stop laughing from beginning to end (and neither did anyone else in the room). Can't recommend him enough. Si 09.03.06

Vastly underated. He is by far and away the best stand up I have seen. His tale of the cat coming in during sex has me crying with laughter Pete 05.02.06

Jeff Green is Englands equlivalent of Billy Connolly maybe he's not as loud but the same comic genius observations make him so brilliant .I first saw Jeff in a two-hour show. I thought there is NO comedian I who could hold a stage for that long without eventually dying but I was proved wrong as he had me falling off the chair almost to the last. Have seen him many times since and he is alongside Connolly and Hicks up with the very best. Duncan 20.01.06

Although I enjoyed his set (billed anonymously as an artist rehearsing his new material)he tends to stay far too loyal to the tried and trusted. In other words, the difference between the sexes. That said, the material itself was new, but I can't help but wonder how much more enjoyable he'd be if he strayed into new subject matters. Mark 22.08.05

Like a poor man's Rob Newman. Not exactly cutting edge, but you know there'll be laughs. Tends to recycle his old stuff a bit too much. Warren Micchell 30.07.05

I know the books have had a bit of a slating, but I loved them. Very well observed, sometimes predictable, sometime very profound, 90% of the time - funny. Loved them. As a stand up the "that REALLY hurts" routine made me crease up. Fantastic Barry Dodd 10.05.05

Saw him in Cats Laugh festival in Kilkenny this year. Best comedian there - very very funny. Siobhan 26.11.04

Not a massive fan of his but had seen bits here and there and hadn't read the books. Disappointed that he hadn't update his act from what I'd seen. Cushions, heating and grey pubic hairs is good material but two years is more than enough for jokes. Matt Reynolds 20.11.04

Absolutely fantastic evening. Tim 10.11.04

Really surprised that his material was much bluer than before. I like him better less blue, the comedy has to be more intelligent and I don't think that people want everything spelling out for them - we like to use our imaginations! Still laughed loads though. Sometimes wish that he would really go more deeply into a subject instead of skimming over masses of different surfaces. Kate 22.10.04

Wonderful. It was nice to see somebody whose entire act didn't rely solely on expletives and crudeness Charlie Thomson 22.10.04

Jeff is a fantastic comic who has an observational eye which picks up on the smallest of details and makes them funny. Superb NikNik 30.09.04

Really very boring. Saw him at the Bedford, Balham last week and his gags range from "cushions on beds, that's just weird" to some rubbish about his kids. Audience were almost all in their twenties and just didn't respond to the Alan Titchmarsh Of Comedy. David Thomson 20.09.04

Very average. Clare 17.09.04

Terrible. Really lame. Michael Knighton 28.05.04

I recently bought a cassette of Jeff's called Debauched Cherub and I laughed until I cried, I only wish it was on video as he is visually better because of all the his expressions. Denise Morris 05.05.04

He continually delivers lines that can uncurl the hairs in ones Afro's. And besides, he really has nothing left to prove to anybody. Sheridan Whiteside 16.12.03

Emarrassingly accurate material that anyone can identify with, Jeff remains one of the most under-rated comics around. His book The A to Z Of Living Together is an essential read too. Hilarious! Rich Dudley 27.06.03

I taped a half-hour show of his on Channel 5's Comedy Store programme a couple of years ago - I've watched this tape over and over again - simply brilliant! Can't wait to see him live. M. Anastasi 03.06.03

Like a younger Jasper Carrott - and not in a good way. Beaky 08.05.03
